Brisa Urquieta de Hernandez
System Director, Operations CommonSpirit Health

Dr. Brisa Urquieta de Hernandez serves as System Director, Operations for the Lloyd H. Dean Institute for Humankindness and Health Justice at CommonSpirit Health (CSH). The past 20 years, her research and operational leadership has focused on addressing health disparities, elevating transdisciplinary collaborations, and understanding the impact of restructuring on health and social service utilization for diverse populations. Prior to her role at CSH, Dr. Hernandez spent 13 years at a large integrated health system in the Southeast where she co-led the development and implementation of the first Community Health strategy. Dr. Hernandez currently holds academic appointments at Morehouse School of Medicine and Baylor College of Medicine. At CSH, she develops effective engagement strategies and oversees pilot programs to deploy innovative models of care leveraging the science of kindness, compassion, empathy and trust to accelerate health justice. Dr. Hernandez received her PhD in Geography and Regional Analysis from UNC- Charlotte.
